Actors Jude Law and Kevin Spacey have joined more than 100 protesters calling for freedom of expression and an end to the dictatorship in Belarus.

The demonstration began outside public relations consultancy firm Grayling, in central London, with the protesters calling for the company to end its business within the former Soviet republic.

Law, who marched in support of dissident theatre group Belarus Free Theatre (BFT), said: “Freedom of speech is not just about artistic expression but also about fundamental freedoms.

“We have the opportunity in this country to protest, to be heard and to use our freedom of speech. It’s our responsibility, therefore, that we speak for those who are less fortunate, especially as fellow Europeans.

“One would hope that this dictator will internationally be recognised for what he’s doing, the tyranny that he’s forcing people to live under.”

The demonstrators then marched to the House of Commons where BFT, whose members have been targeted and imprisoned for speaking out against the government of dictator President Alexander Lukashenko, were to perform.

Spacey, who is artistic director of the Old Vic theatre company in London, spoke of his admiration for BFT after seeing the group perform in New York.

“I don’t think I have ever sat in a nice, comfortable theatre seat and read a programme in which every single member of a theatre company has either been arrested or beaten or jailed or attempted to be silenced or lost their jobs because they have been part of a peaceful protest.”

The American Beauty actor said he has just discovered that his own films and those of Law have now been banned in Belarus because of their involvement with the protests.

“They can ban as many films as they want but they will never be able to ban the Belarus people’s right to fight for their freedom and their voices to be heard, and that’s what this protest is about.”

HOLLYWOOD superstar Jude Law returned to his old primary school to open a performing arts building.

The Sherlock Holmes star attended John Ball school, in Southvale Road, Blackheath, during the 1980s.

His visit included meeting former teachers Margaret Walker and David Culpan, and listening to the senior school choir and the Year 6 rock band.

He also spoke to the pupils during an assembly, recalling his part in the school’s Christmas play.

Mr Law told them: “Believe in yourself, love what you are doing and work hard.”

Head teacher Michael Roach said: “It certainly was an afternoon we will all remember for years to come.

“It is so nice to think that the school set him on his future path.”

The dad-of-four won with 69% of the vote in a poll conducted by fashion website My Celebrity Fashion.
It was the actor’s ‘formal look’ and ‘well groomed appearance’ that saw him take the crown with Jonny Depp ranking closely behind him in second place because of his ‘individuality’.
David Beckham, who is in South Africa supporting his England team mates in the World Cup at the moment, came in at third place with the most common reason being his ‘expensive wardrobe.’
Others celebrity dads that made the shortlist included Ben Affleck, Guy Ritchie, Will Smith and Matthew McConaughhey.

The Marketing Director of the site, Andy Barr, said: ‘The fact that Jude Law beat Johnny Depp to the top spot was somewhat surprising, given Depp’s infamous enviable style.’

‘Yet his tailored, clean cut style mixed with classic muted colours are extremely easy for men to achieve, and therefore instantly more attractive to those trying to emulate a celebrity style; unlike Depp’s eclecticism.’

The Top 10 Most Stylish Celebrity Dads:

1 Jude Law (69%)

2 Johnny Depp (65%)

3 David Beckham (57%)

4 Robert Downey Jnr (51%)

5 Gavin Rossdale (45%)

British actor Jude Law will receive the Karlovy Vary lifetime achievement honor, the President’s Award, at this year’s event.

The Czech Festival will screen Anthony Minghella’s “The Talented Mr. Ripley” in Law’s honor. Law received his first Oscar nomination for his portrayal of spoiled rich boy Dickie Greenleaf in the Mingella adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith crime novel. Law won a best actor BAFTA for the same role.

More recently, Law has appeared as Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” and as part of the A-list cast that replaced the deceased Heath Ledger in Terry Gilliam’s “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.”

The 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival runs from July 2-10.

Jude Law and director Guy Ritchie teamed up again in Paris yesterday. But before you get your hopes up for a new film, they’re not working on the next Sherlock Holmes flick; they were actually filming a commercial for French fashion brand Christian Dior.

Jude was spotted driving a vintage Mercedes around the city of lights and hanging out under the Eiffel Tower for the ad. Guy and Jude were also spotted chatting it up in between scenes.

But, don’t expect to see Jude taking in the sights of Paris this week. He took the train from his hometown of London for the shoot yesterday and was rumored to be hopping right back on the Eurostar as soon as they wrapped. Not only did Jude avoid airport security by taking the train, he also saved some money. A Eurostar ticket from London to Paris only costs £69 ($102). And, probably thanks to the smoothness of his travel, he was in such a good mood when he arrived at the Gare du Nord station in central Paris that he even stopped to sign autographs for several waiting fans.

Law has appeared in several Dior campaigns already, including TV spots for Dior Homme Sport and Dior Homme Intense. It looks like the Paris shoot is for a new Dior fragrance too, and travel-themed fashion always tickles our fancy.
