Wes Anderson may not make a lot of movies, but every time out he swings for the fences with his casts. In addition to his ability to get Bill Murray to come back time and time again – his script selection process is notoriously rigorous but he has been in every Anderson film since Rushmore – the director has been bringing incredibly talented actors together for years, his movies touting names like Gene Hackman, Ben Stiller, Adrien Brody, Anjelica Huston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Willem Dafoe, Cate Blanchett and many more. His latest, Moonrise Kingdom, may be his most powerful ensemble yet, bringing in great performers like Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Bruce Willis, Jason Schwartzman, Bob Balaban, Tilda Swinton and Harvel Keitel. And he may be going for something even bigger in his next film.
According to Twitch, Anderson is going all out while finding his next cast and he has apparently already approached a number of big A-list stars about potential roles. The site says that the filmmaker has reached out to Johnny Depp, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury about the untitled project. It’s worth noting that all of the actors, with the exception of Depp, Law, and Lansbury, have appeared in a previous Anderson film. While details about the movie are still a mystery, when I spoke with Anderson a few weeks ago he told me that his latest work will take him to Europe and that he worked with a new co-writer on the script (aka not Owen Wilson, Noah Baumbach or Roman Coppola).
Honestly, Wes Anderson could make a movie starring two ferrets and I would be interested, so if he’s able to rope even half of the names on that list into his next film it will just be a cherry on top. Let’s just hope he’s aiming to start production soon!
